I’ve learned that sleeping in is a waste of time when you don’t want to. I’ve learned that breakfast included is actually a nice perk. I’ve learned that driving many hours can be fun when there are mountains to look at. I’ve learned that keeping mace within reach does make you feel a little bit safer. I’ve learned that phone calls are sacred when you don’t have a conversation with another person all day. I’ve learned that wild animals have very honest eyes. I’ve learned that all colleges will have things about them that are very unappealing. I’ve learned that the sight of a woman evokes a lot less fear than the sight of a man. I’ve learned that you can tell a person’s intent from their eyes, always. I’ve learned that people who don’t know you have no stake in how interested or uninterested you are at a given moment. I’ve learned that you can’t make everybody interested. I’ve learned that bison and people alike can sense discomfort and fear. I’ve learned that most people are kind and are just trying to get by. I’ve learned that we miss many opportunities because we’re afraid of other people. I’ve learned that happiness is a lot more attractive a feature than wealth or well-dressedness. I’ve learned that there are really two categories of tattoos and of people who get tattoos. Maybe I’m wrong about that last one.
