Road Trip #5: Yellowstone

I hiked Yellowstone today through the snow
In my Asics running shoes because
Although there was snow on the ground
I thought I’d need the support
And a light bulb is nothing like the sun
Because if you fall asleep with the light in the hall
Burning a hole through your eyes
You will wake up with the light in the same position
I came upon a pair of deer
A stag and his mate, both efficiently built and beautiful
As I slowly passed the female she made a sound
Like humans make from the way back of our throats
I can hear the cell phone of the person in the next unit
Buzzing – not a phone call, maybe a text or an alert
Just a short vibrate - and it sends its motion through table or counter
Through ground or walls all the way to my bed
I saw a tree that was once wood and is now stone
I joked with two young couples, both in love, one more modest with it
And when they left and I stayed with the rock tree.
All that remained was the wind and its echo in my ears.
